Senior Engineer that coordinates primary and secondary package design and packaging equipment strategy for Global Technical Operations. Subject matter expert for medical device product packaging with responsibly to identify issues, improvements, cost savings, and optimizations and to implement concepts into production use. Provides technical packaging support for other functions including Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, Clinical, Marketing and Sales. Brief description of the overall purpose of the job and its contribution to the organization. Travel: 20%, including potential for international.
Key Responsibilities:
Package Design: Works with exterior vendors to design primary and secondary packaging concepts within a medical device design control structure that improve the appearance, function, manufacturability, and cost of the Merz products.
Manufacturing: Manages packaging equipment and process projects with Engineering departments across multiple sites to improve the capacity, efficiency, safety, and cost of the Merz packaging processes. Works with management to make decisions on overall packaging strategy of Global Technical Operations.
Regulatory Compliance: Generate effective test protocols while maintaining accurate records and documentation throughout the design and development process in order to comply with company and government standards and regulations. Represent the company in audits as required.
Quality Compliance: Work with Quality and Regulatory to support the compliance of the site. This includes technical assistance in audits, investigations, and corrective actions. It also includes adhering to regulatory standards for activities such as risk analysis, package design, equipment qualification, and process validation.
Budget: Manage and report on project budgets as requested. Work with management on capital budgets for individual projects.
Education:
- BS in Package Engineering or related Field. Required
- MS in related field. Preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of engineering or related experience. Required
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Familiar with Autocad, Solidworks, or equivalent design software. Preferred
- Familiar with ISO 13485 / FDA QSR / GMP / Other medical industry regulations. Required
- Experience with packaging design and automation strategy. Required
- Experience with vendor selection and management. Required
- Six Sigma Methodologies. Preferred
- Statistical Analysis. Preferred
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills. Required
- Ability to communicate and write effectively. Required
- Communication skills with a global team. Required
