The Role
As a Sr Planning Engineer, you will have the opportunity to manage capacity of Lumen’s SS7 and AIN (Signaling System #7, Advanced Intelligent) networks, contribute to high-dollar facility cost savings, and work on projects to simplify and consolidate Lumen’s legacy voice infrastructure. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business through savings, TDM removal, and overall network simplification. This role reports directly to Sr Manager Planning and is considered an Individual Contributor. The team you will be working with is collaborative, experienced, transparent, and values challenging work, diversity of thought, team success, and likes to have fun while producing amazing outcomes. This is a work from home position within the U.S.
The Main Responsibilities
+ Primary planning of the SS7 (Signaling System #7) Network including STP (Signaling Transfer Points), SGX (Ribbon Signaling Gateway) and SCP (Service Control Points) platforms.
+ Researching, designing, and ordering of SS7 links for optimization and consolidation efforts when required for install, augment, and/or disconnects.
+ In-depth understanding of STPs (Signaling Transfer Points), SGX (Ribbon Universal Gateways), SCP (Signaling Control Points), SCE (Service Creation Nodes), CVAS (Communications Value-Added Services), and ELAP (Enhanced Location-Based Services Application Platform) /LSMS (Local Service Management System). Along with having a basic understanding of Voice Mailbox Platforms.
+ Understanding and managing connections of devices from internal SS7 Platforms to External Platforms and supporting any switch initiatives.
+ Leading consolidation efforts for the SS7 Network.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
+ 6+ years of related experience
+ In depth knowledge of SS7 protocols such as SIGTRAN (Signaling Transport), ISUP (ISDN User Part), and TCAP (Transaction Capabilities Application Part) along with understanding of CNAM (Calling Name), LIDB (Line Information Database), and CVAS (Communications Value-Added Services) databases
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications specifically EXCEL
+ SQL ability is a plus
+ Proven ability to handle moderately complex planning/engineering assignments without direct supervision
+ Able to guide and give fellow co-workers feedback in a constructive manner
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Inventory systems such as TIRKS, LIMS, PRO
+ Circuit order systems such as CORE, BPMS, etc.
+ Netbuild, SAP and Fireworks Project Creation
+ Capacity systems – CDBI, VOCUS

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

$84740 - $112980 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.
$88980 - $118630 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.
$93210 - $124280 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
