We are currently looking for a Senior Platform Engineer in New York, NY.
Piper Sandler is actively seeking a Senior Platform Engineer who will significantly influence our infrastructure team's operations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in their work and demonstrates leadership in automation, platform engineering, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will be committed to continuous improvement, optimizing our existing infrastructures-including an expanded focus on cloud services-adopting innovative automation practices, and ensuring high-performance service delivery to facilitate our business operations.
Fundamental Responsibilities
- Design, implement and manage sophisticated automated strategies for our server storage infrastructure in both on-premises and cloud environments (Azure, AWS), ensuring streamlined operations and a significant reduction in manual intervention.
- Develop, refine, and deploy automation scripts and tools to enhance system provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and management, with an emphasis on cloud services integration and management.
- Lead in itiatives to ensure the utmost reliability, scalability, and performance of our server, storage, and cloud platforms, employing thorough performance management strategies to identify and proactively address potential issues.
- Participate in and often lead comprehensive project assignments, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives for optimal company operations.
- Partner closely with application development teams, understanding their needs, and providing infrastructure solutions that enhance their productivity and the performance of applications.
- Maintain scrupulous documentation for system changes, automation processes, and platform configurations, strictly adhering to the company's change management policies.
- Excel in collaboration and communication with diverse stakeholder groups, breaking down complex technical topics into clear, understandable insights, and advocating for infrastructure needs and priorities.
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor's deg ree in information systems, computer science, or a related field, and/or 8+ years of equivalent work experience, with a track record of leadership.
- 6+ years of experience in related automation roles, with experience in cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP) and expertise in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Comprehensive experience in managing and optimizing SAN and NAS environments, with a solid foundation in FC/iSCSI/NVMe, SMB/NFS/S3, and cloud storage solutions.
- Advanced skills in managing Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX/Linux administration, and hands-on work with cloud platform services.
- Proven experience with virtualization technologies, including VMware ESX servers, and containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, with a strong understanding of their performance metrics and management.
- In-depth experience utilizing automation tools and frameworks (such as Ansible, Terraform, etc.) across diverse on-premises and cloud environments.
- Robust understanding of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), server hardware platforms, and cloud network and storage solutions.

The anticipated starting salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $125,000 - $200,000 per year. Placement within this range is dependent upon level of experience. This position is eligible for annual incentive compensation which will be a part of the total compensation. Total compensation for this position will be competitive with the market.
