The Senior Program Manager for Discovery and Data Management leads the eDiscovery and Records Information Management (RIM) team as a people and program manager
This role involves developing strategies and processes to support litigation, data retention, knowledge management, and legal data management initiatives on a global scale
Candidates should be skilled in strategic planning, talent development, continuous improvement, and significant budget oversight
In addition to managing a team, successful candidates must have ability to work closely with both in-house and outside counsel and paralegals
This position will report directly to Global Legal Operations, with a dotted line to the Global Litigation Team, and is expected to actively participate in leadership meetings and discussions within the Litigation team
The Senior Program Manager for Discovery and Data Management will not only handle and perform eDiscovery tasks but also oversee the entire eDiscovery process, including data identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, records retention, and production
This role ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while collaborating with legal teams, IT, and external vendors to develop and execute efficient eDiscovery strategies for litigation and investigations
Additionally, the position focuses on maintaining cost efficiency and optimizing resource use throughout the discovery process
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with expertise in eDiscovery, Records Information Management (RIM), data governance, knowledge management, and legal operations
This expertise should be paired with strong leadership, technical proficiency, organizational skills, and the ability to facilitate effectively
Success in this role requires thriving in a regulated, matrixed environment, being a respected leader and team player, and demonstrating clear communication and strong collaboration across the organization.This position will reside in our Operational Headquarters Office in Fridley, MN and will work per the hybrid guidelines.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.Oversee the entire eDiscovery (EDRM) lifecycle, from identification to production, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards while aligning with business strategies to achieve desired outcomes.Develop and implement eDiscovery protocols, data management processes, retention strategies and best practices to align with business strategies, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs.Verify discovery responses and potentially serve as a corporate witness on various topics, including acting as a 30(b)(6) representative if needed.Manage document review and knowledge management platforms, supervising teams conducting document reviews for litigation and regulatory inquiries.Establish clear direction and management objectives that align with defined practices and policies, enhancing the organization's corporate legal initiatives and supporting various projects requiring subject matter expertise.Oversee the records management team to ensure that data retention policies comply with legal obligations.Provide regular reports and updates to legal leadership on matter progress and developments in eDiscovery, Records Information Management (RIM), data management, and knowledge management, including key performance indicators and other relevant metrics.Collaborate with litigation attorneys and paralegals, IT, and third-party vendors to streamline data collection and management processes.Lead the evaluation, selection, and management of eDiscovery tools and software.Serve as the escalation point for issues related to eDiscovery, Records Information Management, Data Governance, and Knowledge Management programs or systems.Resolve issues through information exchange, influence, and active persuasion, fostering cooperation from other parties in executing program plans without direct authority.Ensure the security and integrity of data throughout the eDiscovery process.Stay informed on eDiscovery trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to maintain a proactive approach.Serve as the liaison between legal and IT teams for issues or projects related to eDiscovery, Records Information Management (RIM), data management, and Knowledge Management.Work with the finance partners to ensure planned system costs or new project costs are included in the annual operating plan (AOP).Travel requirement: Less than 10%MUST HAVE: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant professional experience in eDiscovery, Records Information Management, Legal Operations, Information Technology, or other related fields with 5+ years of managerial experience (or, an advanced degree with 5+ years experience and 5+ years of managerial experienceNICE TO HAVE:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Legal Studies, Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related disciplineMaster's degree in a related field, Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or Paralegal certificate.Relevant experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services, including legal operations and data management.Proficient in process mapping, project management, and Lean or Six Sigma principles, concepts, practices, and standards.Experience working effectively within a matrixed organizational structure.Strong ability to build relationships and earn the trust of practice leads, attorneys, and support staff.Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve issues in a creative and collaborative manner.Actively seeks opportunities to enhance stakeholder satisfaction and deepen relationships.Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide updates to executive leadership.Physical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.
