Position: Project Manager
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Our architects pursue design excellence with a desire to improve the interactions we have with each other and our built environment. We are ranked as the fifth-largest architectural firm in the greater Indianapolis area. Our Architecture Group includes almost 30 distinguished architects, interior designers, planners, graphic designers, and LEED-accredited professionals with direct access to our more than 500 professionals across 11 disciplines. Our collaborative design approach brings to light creative solutions to complex challenges, while balancing social, environmental, and economic realities. We orchestrate the design process with a full range of services, from programming and concept design, through architecture, interior and graphic design, and construction administration services.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a project team’s communications, financial performance, and ensuring that the work is completed as planned, budgeted, and scheduled. The Project Manager works collaboratively with the Project Architect and Project Designer. Together you are responsible for ensuring that the client’s needs and expectations are properly identified and met. You may manage one or more projects during all phases and direct select staff and consultants to ensure that proper steps and procedures are taken in an effort to ensure project success. This role is collaborative and client focused with a commitment to nurturing the client and project team relationships as well as design excellence.
Leadership
- Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with Group Leadership
- Assist group management in developing and validating project scope and fee, budget, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process
- Assist in preparing project presentations. May participate and/or lead client presentations.
- Consistently provide complete and timely communication of project information to and from clients and project team. Responsible for managing project financials and completing work plan including identification of project team members, budget, consultants, schedule for completion, fees and costs as well as project change notices or other actions taking place on the assigned project
- Ensures that budgets have been developed to provide for Quality Control Management through the life of the project
- Ensure project profitability including the meeting of multiplier goals, work plans and schedule
- Foster a culture of client service, both externally and internally
Marketing and Sales
- Identify new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listen for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated
- Participate in select marketing and business development opportunities.
Workflow and Staff Management
- Management of work including coordination of select projects as well as prioritization and scheduling of projects and staff in conjunction with Production Director
- Plan, organize and manages projects. Provide on-going communication through team meetings/minutes/up-date memos to project team and group leadership
- Communicate with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure effective project coordination
- Monitor construction administration during the construction phase
- Develop and maintains positive relationships with consultants and clients
- Monthly market area revenue projections with a 3-month and 6-month look ahead
- Participate in interviewing of professional staff as needed
- Help to manage project AR
Staff Development
- Continuously monitor project teams. Motivate employees and facilitate open dialogue and feedback
- Select staff development including coaching and mentoring, and goal setting in conjunction with group leadership
- Performance assessment for select staff including performance reviews in conjunction with Production Director
- Help to effectively deal with personnel issues within the group in conjunction with Human Resources and group leadership
- Encourage staff exploration and innovation to achieve project design excellence and continual improvement
Technical Leadership
- Assist with leadership and development of architecture projects
- Facilitate coordination between project staff and subconsultants on multi-discipline projects
- Large project development and oversight
- Aid in project specific, technical problem solving
- Facilitate roadblock avoidance and resolution
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years in the Architectural design business (management, engineering, administration) with significant project experience in multidiscipline projects
- Ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere and to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.
- Strong knowledge of subconsultant services required on building projects including but not limited to MEP, Code consulting, kitchen specialists, acoustics specialists, cost estimators)
- Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
- Proven project management abilities to ensure on time and on budget delivery along with maximizing profitability
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations
- LEED accreditation strongly encouraged.
Professional Architectural License with current registration in region(s) preferred.
- Proficiency in Deltek Vision preferred.
- Proficiency in Revit preferred.
