We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Public Finance Banker to join our Global Markets team. This role is located in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA - HYBRID
Role Overview:
In this position within our Public Finance team in Global Markets Trading, you will be responsible for sourcing and executing capital market debt transactions from the point of engagement through financial close while providing investment banking solutions for the firm’s public sector & nonprofit clients throughout the country. You will work closely with our sales & trading, underwriting, derivatives and DCM teams to engage public sector clients from across BNY's enterprise to expand our Public Finance footprint.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Manage all aspects of Fixed Rate Public Finance including business development, deal execution and management to generate revenue within the space
- Develop financing and strategic advisory transaction ideas
- Market and present the firm’s services to new and existing clients
- Create presentations and plans of finance and responses to request for proposals (RFP’s) and drive the deal execution process
- Ensure all regulatory and compliance measures are followed
- Source, structure, document, and execute municipal bond transactions across the country, as well as select sector specific issuer customers when applicable
- Lead deal identification; generate and evaluate strategic and financing ideas and options for clients
- Execute financing transactions; review numbers (new money, refunding, restructuring analysis and review debt profiles
- Coordinate with internal and external parties to ensure regulatory compliance
- Liaise and leverage internal resources as needed to maximize client delivery
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 7 + years of investment banking experience in public finance preferred
- Track record of understanding and experience within the the municipal bond market
- Previous experience in the following areas preferred : developing financial models to structure bond transactions, performing new money and refunding’s, participating in the execution of senior managed deals including the coordination of all financing team members, due diligence activities, analyzing and structuring debt, analyzing financial legal documentation, presenting financing and credit analysis plans to clients, creating investor presentations. Experience leading municipal bond offerings throughout the transaction lifecycle
- Strong analytical skills, quantitative training and research and experience managing large deal teams and complex financings is advantageous
- Demonstration of the ability to work independently in a highly detail oriented manner
- Strong communication and relationship building skills required
- Established network, reputation and client relationships preferred.
- Project management skills and track record of delivery within a timely manner required
- A strong team player who can guide and mentor junior team members as needed
- Ability to travel for business when required
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
- FINRA Series 7(grandfathered), 79 or 52 and 63 licenses required, in addition the candidate will need to obtain a Series 50 within 6 months of employment

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $139,000 and $300,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
