Senior Research Associate Job Description
Talus Bio is looking for a Senior Research Associate (Sr RA) to join our team full-time in our Seattle office reporting to Dr. Lindsay Pino, Co-Founder and CTO.
This person will work directly with the platform and proteomics team of Talus Bio and will be naturally curious, results-driven, and eager to work in a small preclinical biotech environment.
This individual will play a critical role in developing, optimizing, and executing mass spectrometry-based workflows for proteomics research. The successful candidate will have experience in proteomics, including sample preparation, cell culture, operating LC-MS instrumentation, and mass spectrometry data analysis.
Responsibilities
- LC-MS Operation & Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mass spectrometers (Orbitrap and time-of flight) and liquid chromatography systems
- Sample Preparation: Execute protocols for protein extraction, digestion (e.g., trypsin), and clean-up for LC-MS/MS analysis
- Proteomics Analysis: Conduct complex proteomics experiments, including DIA, DDA, and PRM approaches
- Method Development: Assist in the development and optimization of proteomics methods, including sample preparation and LC-MS methods
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze proteomics data using software (e.g., Skyline, EncyclopeDIA, etc.) and bioinformatics tools to identify changes in protein and peptide expression
- Collaborative Research: Work closely with cross-functional teams to design and execute experiments and interpret results
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed experimental records, analyze and interpret data, and present findings at internal meetings and external conferences
Qualifications
Required
- Education and Experience Requirements: BS degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience; or a MS degree with 1 year of experience in proteomics and mass spectrometry
- Mass Spectrometry Experience: Significant hands-on experience withLC-MS/MS systems (e.g., Orbitrap, Q-TOF), including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Sample Preparation Skills: Expertise in cell culture, protein extraction, digestion, and peptide clean-up for MS analysis
- Data Analysis Tools: Proficiency with proteomics data analysis software (e.g., Skyline) and solid understanding of the analysis of proteomics data
- Technical Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation issues and optimize methods for challenging samples
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Must have authorization to legally work in the US.
Preferred
- LC-MS Method Development: Experience in developingLC-MS methods for proteomics, including DDA, DIA, or PRM methods
- Automation Skills: Familiarity with automated sample preparation systems and high-throughput workflows
- Bioinformatics Integration: Basic knowledge of a coding language (R or Python) for interpreting and presenting proteomics results

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000/year.
