As a part of the global research, our AI research in Silicon Valley focuses on Foundation Models, Big Data Visual Analytics, Explainable AI (XAI), Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision & Mixed Reality, Cloud Robotics, Data Science, AI System Engineering, Time-series Analysis. We develop scalable, intelligent, and trustworthy AIoT solutions for Bosch products and services in application areas such as automated driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), robotics, smart manufacturing, enterprise AI, health care, smart home and building solutions.
Originating from the AI research in Silicon Valley, our Intelligent Autonomous Systems group is responsible for enabling future autonomous Bosch products by pushing the boundaries of robotics, automated driving and automation through key innovations that encompass system architecture and AI components. These include methods for localization, motion planning, high level task planning and decision making as well as systems for making these technologies work on real products by building frameworks that take advantage of technologies in the field of reliable distributed computing. We work with internal partners of different Bosch business units to transfer our solutions into future products. We also actively collaborate with leading groups in academia and industry to promote research ideas and publish research findings in internationally renowned conferences and journals such as CVPR, ICRA, IROS, RSS, NeurIPS and CoRL.
Job Description- Conduct advanced research and engineering in reliable distributed systems, especially using AI approaches, to enable Cloud and Edge powered Embodied AI solutions for related AIoT (AI+IoT) business domains of autonomous driving, industrial automation, robotics etc.
- Collaborate with a global team to transfer cutting-edge research findings to Bosch's operational units.
- Collaborate with renowned university UC Berkeley on scalable and distributed autonomous systems research.
- Implement research results to solve real-world challenges, ensuring high-quality system integration within Bosch's existing platforms.
- Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and market trends by attending academic conferences, technical events, and seminars.
- Offer expert insights to the management team in relevant technology sectors, aiding in strategic planning, R&D trajectory, and investment decisions.
- Document and disseminate research findings through high-caliber publications and/or patent submissions.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics or a related discipline with 2+ years of industry experience or master’s degree with 5+ years industry experience after graduation.
- 5+ years of R&D experience, or an equivalent graduate research background, primarily in AI-motivated distributed system technologies and architectures including cloud computing, parallel computing, operating systems, middleware frameworks, real-time systems or network protocols.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in systems research (e.g., Rust, C++, Python).
- In-depth experience with autonomous system architectures, e.g. for autonomous driving or robotics.
- Hands-on experience with at least one automotive / robotic / general purpose middleware framework (e.g. AUTOSAR, ROS2, Zenoh, DDS).
- Experience with real-world product development and deployment of autonomous systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- A strong portfolio of publications in premier computer systems, machine learning, deep learning, robotics, computer vision journals and conferences.
- Familiarity with AI inferencing and training, knowledge of major machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience in reliable and safe distributed function design.
- Experience developing and analyzing real-time and/or safety-critical systems.
- Experience with automotive safety (e.g. ISO 26262) and communication standards (e.g. V2X) and past participation in standardization efforts is a plus.
- Experience with automotive architecture design is a plus.
- Experience with object detection, tracking and mapping approaches for robotic or automotive applications is a plus.
- Strong background in math and statistics is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork capabilities.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000 - $185,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc. Your Recruiter can share more details about the specific salary range for this position during the interview process.
