RTI is a leader in multi-disciplinary research to address complex problems that impact human health. A historical strength, led by RTI’s Technology Advancement & Commercialization (TAC) unit, has been aerosol exposure assessment and corresponding effects on human health through basic and applied research that spans the entire source-exposure-dose paradigm. Our research program focuses on health outcomes that leverage our advanced capabilities in aerosol exposure measurements and modeling, particle chemical speciation, data analytics, digital biomarkers of health impacts, and therapeutic drug delivery.
We seek to grow our research program by adding expertise in respiratory health, specifically respiratory disease mechanisms, epidemiology, and environmental influences. This research will span the entire exposome from community to molecular levels by applying novel exposure assessment methods to improve public health both domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities:To lead these efforts, we are seeking a Senior Research Scientist develop and grow this strategic area of research. You will be expected to:
- Develop research concepts focused on patient centered care through health information technology that builds on RTI’s current capabilities. Ideally, these concepts will integrate progression of a respiratory disease, pre-clinical and clinical measures of respiratory health, and biomarkers of physiological response;
- Lead external proposals, funded projects, and dissemination of results to journal publications and conference presentations;
- Foster collaborations with internal and external research collaborators,
- Identify gaps in research knowledge, emerging research topics, and new priorities of relevant funding agencies that could lead to the development and implementation of new research programs.
A successful applicant will have demonstrated success working in a multidisciplinary, collaborative, and scientifically driven environment. You will have the opportunity to lead a research team and directly supervise research staff. You will perform all these duties keeping equity and environmental justice as a priority.
Qualifications:- PhD. plus minimum of 5 years of post-graduate research experience focused on one or more respiratory diseases, preclinical and clinical measurements, and health outcomes.
- Have served as a principal Investigator for at least 3 grants, cooperative agreements, or contracts.
- Experience with human subjects research, including clinical trials.
- Have published 30 or more journal publications.
- Strong understanding of environmental epidemiology and experience in associated biospecimen sample collection and analysis techniques.
- Understanding of biostatistics, data analysis techniques and associated software.
- Experience leading a research team that spans personnel, instrumentation, and laboratory space.
- Demonstrated ability to foster the growth and development of new investigators and junior scientists.
Preferred:
- Experience with implementation science research.
- Experience working with disadvantaged populations.
- Knowledge of exposure and health assessment methodologies that could span instrumentation, modeling, and surveys.
- Knowledge of in vitro and ex vivo
- Integration of the social determinants of health principles into your research.
