Senior Residential Counselor

An Overview
The Senior Residential Counselor (SRC) Provides supervision to residential counselors to ensure that the group home residents are provided with quality care, supports, and instruction in daily living skills. Directs residential care, assisting in the creation and implementation of residential treatment plans to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. Oversees program management of group home by maintaining resident records, assures program site is clean, safe and in good repair. Monitors compliance with State licensing, City and department policies and regulations.
What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of mental and physical handicaps; thorough knowledge of household coordination and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the nature of mental illness, intellectual disabilities or developmental delay and the role of residential support services; empathy with the problems with intellectual disabilities; ability to conduct task analysis and collect behavioral data; ability to conduct individual and group classes for consumers with mental and physical handicaps; ability to utilize observations to record and document consumer performance and progress; ability to identify behavior which indicates movement toward a crisis situation; ability to plan and lead the work of subordinate counselors; ability to obtain the cooperation of others in difficult situations; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain accurate records.
The Opportunity
- Evaluates counselors on regular basis and provides adequate supervision.
- Schedules counselors to provide 24/7 coverage for the home.
- Reviews and signs time sheets, approves and monitors overtime use.
- Participates in the selection process of new counselors.
- Orients, trains, and provides on-going supervision for counselors.
- Provides direct observation and feedback to counselors through announced and unannounced visits.
- Participates in treatment team meetings.
- Ensures counselors maintain required training and certifications.
- Assures group home and assigned vehicle are clean, safe and in good repair.
- Assures that residents are provided with adequate supervision and skill development.
- Monitors resident records to ensure compliance with State regulations.
- Maintains current policies and procedures manuals at group home.
- Develops and maintains rapport with neighbors.
- Attends and participates in monthly supervision meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
