Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Revenue Accountant to join our healthcare finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant revenue recognition for healthcare services, managing accounts receivable, and supporting billing and reimbursement processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare accounting principles, including the complexities of Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing, as well as a deep understanding of healthcare revenue cycles. You will play a critical role in ensuring that revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and payer contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Recognition & Billing:
Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP, ASC 606, and other healthcare-specific regulations.
Manage and reconcile accounts receivable for healthcare services, including timely invoicing, payment posting, and collections follow-up.
Oversee billing processes for government (Medicare, Medicaid) and commercial insurance payers, ensuring that claims are submitted accurately and on time.
Payer Contracts & Reimbursement:
Analyze and interpret payer contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition based on fee schedules, capitation arrangements, and bundled payment models.
Work with the payer relations and contracting team to update and ensure accurate terms are reflected in the accounting system.
Track and analyze payer reimbursements to ensure they align with contractual terms and escalate discrepancies as needed.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
Prepare monthly journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, contractual adjustments, and other related transactions.
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, focusing on accurate revenue recognition and compliance with healthcare accounting standards.
Reconcile revenue accounts and balances as part of the month-end close process and ensure all appropriate accruals are made.
Compliance & Audit Support:
Maintain strong internal controls over healthcare revenue processes and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA, CMS, and other federal and state requirements.
Prepare documentation and support the external auditors during annual audits, particularly related to revenue recognition, payer agreements, and accounts receivable.
Assist with payer audits, ensuring proper documentation is provided and addressing any findings or adjustments.
Revenue Cycle & Process Improvement:
Collaborate with billing, coding, and operational teams to optimize the revenue cycle, ensuring accurate coding, claim submissions, and payment collections.
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate processes related to revenue recognition, billing, and reporting.
Work with cross-functional teams to improve processes for billing accuracy, accounts receivable aging, and payment collections.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Analyze revenue trends and payer performance, providing actionable insights to management on key financial metrics.
Assist in forecasting and budgeting activities by providing detailed revenue data and trend analysis.
Prepare ad-hoc reports for management, highlighting issues or opportunities in revenue performance.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. CPA or other professional certification is preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in healthcare revenue accounting, billing, or reimbursement, preferably in a hospital, health system, or managed care environment.
Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle management, payer contract structures (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurers), and healthcare regulatory guidelines (CMS, HIPAA, etc.).
Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, as well as the claims submission process for Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of GAAP, ASC 606, and healthcare-specific revenue recognition principles.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Epic, Cerner, etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Preferred:
