Position Summary
MEPPI is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design and implementation of monitoring, communication, and system control hardware and software for the Substation Division. The ideal candidate will have experience in the renewable energy sector. This job provides our group with expertise in electromechanical relay control as well as PLC/HMI/SCADA systems development and testing. Essential Functions
- Lead the design, implementation and verification of Programmable Logic Controller, logic and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software to monitor and control substation systems.
- Lead the development and implementation of design improvements for product quality, processing time, component lead time, construction design and product support.
- Identify and create hardware and software specifications for substation projects. Prepare and review mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Manage updates and version control for Substation software installations.
- Design, implement and troubleshoot communication links and networks between substation devices.
- Perform factory acceptance tests (FAT) and field/site acceptance tests (SAT). Create test plans and record results.
- Mentor and instruct division engineers on system control design, troubleshooting, testing and documentation.
- Monitor and track progress towards completion milestones and deadlines. Communicate progress towards the achievement of milestones and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum 7 years of experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of network and communication protocols, logic and control platforms, and system programming.
- Advanced knowledge of process instrumentation.
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills required to communicate with employees, customers and suppliers.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and material.
- Advanced computer skills, emphasizing knowledge of MS Office products.
