Senior Scientist, Cancer Biology Target ID & Validation - Parabilis Medicines
Cambridge, MA
About the Job
Why join us?
Parabilis Medicines (formerly FogPharma) is a biopharmaceutical company pioneering the discovery and development of Helicon™ therapeutics, which are peptides capable of efficient cell entry and modulation of both protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. Through Helicon therapeutics, Parabilis is poised to revolutionize the medical possibilities for patients by precisely drugging intracellular targets long understood to be significant drivers of disease but never before drugged due to the limitations of existing drug modalities to act within the cell.
FOG-001, the company's first-in-class TCF-blocking β-catenin inhibitor, is being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 study for patients with advanced solid tumors, including colorectal cancer. Parabilis is fully leveraging the unprecedented potential Helicons present by deploying proprietary, custom-built machine learning and computational methods as part of its discovery and development process. Parabilis Medicines has raised more than $500 million to date from leading life sciences investors. Parabilis is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass.
What's the opportunity?
We're looking for an experienced oncology cell biologist to help drive target ideation, confirmation and initial drug discovery efforts. In this role, you will be expected to use your cancer biology pathway knowledge to help shape candidate target identification through collaboration with other researchers and the Data Science team. The successful candidate will be able to critique and evaluate the relevant biology and then propose an efficient drug discovery strategy for multiple targets simultaneously. Execution will require a blend of hands-on bench work and coordination of external CRO partners. The ability to collaborate, execute and clearly communicate will be paramount for rapid decision-making.
Key abilities of this role include:
- Envision, design and implement cell engineering strategies for target and inhibitor MOA confirmation and coordinating their transition to in vivo xenograft studies.
- Develop, execute, and interpret in vitro pharmacology studies internally and via CRO partners
- Integrated knowledge of cancer biology and drug discovery to support key early discovery decision making
- Desire to learn and embrace AI and ML as a vital component of target identification and evaluation
- Abilities to work within a matrix environment to execute studies and inspire and mentor surrounding biology team members
- Ability to clearly communicate target rationale, experimental strategy, execution plans, and results to all levels of the organization
What you'll need to be successful:
- Ph.D. in Biology, Cell or Molecular Biology or related field with 5+ years post-degree industry cancer biology experience, or MS with 20+ years of relevant industry drug discovery experience.
- Demonstrated success in creating and rapidly executing rational experimental strategies for target evaluation and confirmation experiments.
- Creative and adaptive mindset to thrive in a vertically integrated team environment addressing key questions from preclinical, clinical, and commercial
- Excellent communication, organization, multi-tasking, flexibility, and team skills.
- Able to work on-site and attend in-person meetings
