CapSpecialty is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will lead the design development, and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring that the solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements. The Senior Software Engineer ensures industry best practices are applied to the design, development, and implementation of the technical solution. They will also serve as a mentor to junior developers and provides thought leadership to other team members within the organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- In support of project/small enhancement execution – lead the design, development, and implementation of software solutions. Troubleshoot and debug solutions as needed. Estimate completion timeframes for assigned work. Mentor junior team members. Coordinate/collaborate with other supporting areas as needed to support application development (e.g., performance/load testing, security, integrations, etc.).
- Provide production support to assigned systems - debug and provide corrective solutions as appropriate. Coordinate solution implementation with product owners and other functional areas as needed.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with peers and business partners to promote collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Participate in training and/or other self-development learning activities as needed. Proactively learn about the broader ecosystem and business processes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Core Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of relational databases, object-orientated programming and database development is required.
- Ability to perform work independently as well as lead/mentor junior team members.
- Exceptional knowledge of development best practice, development tools, and source control management. Strong working knowledge of security standards and methodologies.
- Understands other functional areas within the SDLC and collaborates to provide input as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and solve complex problems.
- Support planning activities by developing execution strategies, identifying issues/risks, and providing task completion estimates.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of systems development experience within the insurance industry is required.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. at times.
