Job Description:
French Brothers Homes, a leading production home builder in Southern New Mexico, seeks an exceptional Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team.
The Senior Accountant manages the company's accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role involves preparing financial statements, performing complex account reconciliations, and providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff members within the department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of achieving results in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Within 5 days, complete the End of Month process and report Financials on the 6th business day.
- Manage and reconcile complex account reconciliations and transactions, including all balance sheet accounts, revenue, and related cost of sales. Manage bank reconciliations for multiple companies, consisting of six hundred monthly transactions.
- Develop and maintain a data retention policy to ensure appropriate documentation supports monthly and annual financial reports, including bank statements, account reconciliations, and construction loan balances.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior accounting staff to enhance their skills and performance.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities. Maintain and improve internal controls and evaluate and implement accounting software and system upgrades as needed.
- Review internal controls, processes, and procedures semi-annually to identify areas for improvement.
- Create and maintain documentation that reflects current processes.
Requirement Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in finance and accounting, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility, including supervisory experience.
- Solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MarkSystems.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to focus on the big picture (company goals, operating budgets, etc.) while reviewing the transactions at a detailed level.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and a track record of mentoring and developing staff.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines consistently.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards and integrity in financial practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
