A Day in the Life of a Senior Staff Accountant

You will perform GL account reconciliations in the ERP system, maintain and balance the general ledger with attention to detail. You will prepare monthly balance sheet account schedules and perform account trend analysis. You will ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying and entering transactions and resolving any variances. You will assist with month-end and year-end closing and schedules as well as support financial reporting. The department will look to you to suggest ways to streamline and document processes. The team relies on your help to ensure the financial health of the company and you get to work on a team that is diverse, dynamic, supportive, and talented.

Qualifications of a Senior Staff Accountant:

• A degree in accounting, or accounting knowledge and experience in lieu of a degree
• 7+ years of accounting experience including balance sheet account reconciliation
• Experience working with government contracts (state, local, federal) in a job cost environment
• Skill in identifying, analyzing, and resolving account variances
• Proficiency with month-end and year-end closing processes
• Experience with financial reporting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and federal acquisition regulations
• Strong attention to detail

Work Schedule for a Senior Staff Accountant

This full-time position typically works a schedule of 40 hours a week. This position will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days a week in the office with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week. We provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is our corporate headquarters. We are conveniently located just outside of Washington DC in downtown Silver Spring, two blocks from the Silver Spring Metrorail/MARC Station and bus depot. Our beautiful 8th floor suite offers stunning views of DC and surrounding Montgomery County. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
