Job Details
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Staff Accountant, your primary responsibilities will include:
1. Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
2. Managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
3. Conducting regular reconciliation of all accounts, identifying discrepancies and resolving them promptly.
4. Coordinating and completing annual audits, providing recommendations for improving procedures and systems for initiating corrective actions.
5. Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, analyzing financial variances and providing appropriate recommendations.
6. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
7. Performing month-end and year-end close process, preparing accruals, and making necessary adjustments.
8. Maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
9. Assisting in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Staff Accountant role will have:
1. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree or CPA is a plus.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the insurance industry.
3. Solid knowledge of GAAP and regulations.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel (Vlookup, Pivot Tables).
5. Experience with accounting software and databases.
6. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
7. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial matters to non-financial personnel.
8. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an eye for prioritization and detail.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
10. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
