Position Summary:
Assist in the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger. Produces necessary worksheets as support for the preparation of journal entries and account analysis. Prepares monthly financial statements and performs analysis to identify variances. Provides support needed for annual audit and assists in special projects as needed.
Serves as backup in the absence of the Accounting Manager.
Major Position Responsibilities:
Maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger:
- Responsible for balancing interfaces from auxiliary systems into the general ledger.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts of responsibility on a timely manner
- Maintain the chart of accounts according to OSPHD requirements
- Assures accounting practices are in compliance to GAAP
Prepare monthly financial statements:
- Ensure all required journal entries are completed and entered into the general ledger per the monthly schedule.
- Responsible for the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package.
- Ensure that financial statements are presented in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform analysis of financial statements to identify budget variances and prepare a summary for management use.
- Maintain the master department listing used for distribution of departmental report distribution.
Serve as key accounting personnel:
- Assists managers and employees in resolving questions regarding accounting procedures and reports
- Provide required training to other personnel as it relates to general ledger and accounting processes
- Keep updated on various software applications to provide process improvement. Serve as key personnel for software revision and upgrades.
- Serve as backup to staff accountant and manager to assure in their absence the accounting operations continues .
- Participate in fiscal yea end audit
- Prepare monthly billing and regulatory reports on a timely basis. Assist in special projects as requested by management.
Safety and Infection Control Responsibilities
- Responsible to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including unit based specific safety and infection control requirements.
Qualifications: ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years general accounting experience, required
- Previous hospital accounting experience preferred.
- Understanding of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles required
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to work with various levels of personnel (secretaries to senior managers) required.
- High level of personal accountability for accuracy, attention to detail and completion of work assignments required.
- Independent, analytical thinker who can move from detailed transactions to big picture required
- Capacity to work under conditions of constant change, deadlines, and scrutiny required
- High level of professional demeanor required: confidentiality, timelines, prioritization, judgment required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
