Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer - Agility Robotics
Salem, OR
About the Job
Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people's lives more fulfilling.
About the Team:
Our mechanical engineering team is agile and has grown rapidly, and we are looking for a talented engineering leader to join us remotely in San Francisco Bay Area, or on-site at our Salem facility. We are responsible for delivering advanced and reliable designs that meet a complex set of requirements to our customers, including software developers, applications engineers, manufacturing engineers and ultimately to fleet deployment managers. We work as a group to develop new technologies, engineer new products, and refine/maintain existing designs. The team is composed of engineers from many backgrounds and levels of experience.
About The Role:
We are currently designing the next generation of Digit for commercial scale. Highly reliable and robust designs are critical to successful deployment of our robots in large quantities. Digit works in demanding environments, performing highly repetitive and heavily loaded tasks. The Principal/Staff mechanical engineer will work closely with cross functional teams to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready.
This role is based either in Salem, OR or in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are Bay Area based you must be able to be on-site at Agility's design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)
About the work:
- Act as a mechanical engineering architect and lead major subsystem design
- Own architecture, design, implementation, testing, and commercialization for relevant hardware subsystems.
- Drive engineering specifications from product requirements and work cross functionally to align engineering specifications with different domains (electrical, mechanical, industrial design, software, test, manufacturing etc.)
- Create subsystem CAD and ensure quality
- Lead cross-functional design reviews
- Drive the development of specifications, requirements, test methods and protocols through formal verification to ensure functionality, safety and efficacy of design
About you:
- Demonstrated experience in mechanism design, packaging, and knowledge of various types of motors, encoders, sensors, power transmission, and drive-train-related components such as gears, splines, lead screws, linear guides, harmonic drive actuators, etc.
- 10+ years of mechanical design experience with 2+ years of robotics design
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, minimum requirement)
- Proven experience designing and building mechanisms and assemblies, ideally with a background in robotics
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical analysis including modeling tolerance stacks, static and dynamic analysis, FEA and thermal analysis
- Skilled in conflict resolution and team development
- Ability to be on-site at Agility's design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Robotics experience and leadership in a robotics organization
- Advanced degree in engineering or science or robotics
- Jira/Confluence experience
- PLM and PDM experience
- Creo experience
