POSITION SUMMARY
In the Senior Tax Accountant role, you will have the opportunity to (i) deepen your data analytical and modeling skills, (ii) learn the key elements of income taxation related to partnerships and REITs, (iii) interact with many groups throughout the company including investments, development, legal, property management, accounting and Senior Executives at JBG SMITH.
JBG SMITH hires with opportunities to advance internally across those groups to provide opportunity for growth within. All new JBG SMITH employees start their tenure at the company with a half-day orientation session that covers information relevant to all employees. Participants learn about the company, its history, mission and culture, and how to find the resources and information you’ll need to be successful in your role as a JBG SMITH employee. You will also learn about required company training and the additional training available to you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Preparing workpapers supporting book/tax differences
- Preparing tax provision workpapers
- Preparing and maintaining fixed asset uploads and reconciliations
- Preparing and maintaining Real Estate Investment Trust gross income and asset valuation models
- Preparing reports required for outside service providers for the completion of tax filings
- Reviewing GAAP financial statements to ensure accuracy of our tax ledger in the accounting system
- Working with tax team, IT, and accounting teams to maintain automated systems such as:
- electronic property level tax basis trial balances
- electronic tax provision work papers for corporate entities
- electronic REIT tests
- Participating in the development of annual strategic taxable income plans
- Preparing other analysis as needed to support the tax management team
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS)
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting
- 1-3 years of tax accounting experience with superior quantitative skills and analytical abilities
- Public or corporate accounting experience
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of Alteryx preferred
- Professional presentation and superior written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for learning, focused attention to detail and a commitment to excellence
- Dependability as a team member who always gives their best and pitches in when others need help to ensure that collectively the team meets its goals
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Eligible to sit for the CPA exam
The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000 annually. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline. It is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors.
