Position Overview
The Senior Tax Accountant (Indirect Tax) will support the Indirect Tax Manager with indirect tax-related activities, focusing on sales, use, and property taxes. This role is responsible for preparing tax filings, maintaining tax records, and ensuring accurate tax payments, while also handling various ad hoc tax projects. This is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Filings: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns with supporting workpapers.
- Exemption Management: Maintain customer exemption certificates and complete vendor exemption certificates as needed.
- Property Tax: Assist in the preparation and filing of property tax returns and supporting documents.
- Payment Processing: Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual tax payments; prepare monthly payment support for accounts payable coding.
- Tax Issue Resolution: Address incoming tax notices, research tax issues, and document findings.
- Reconciliations: Prepare monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Compliance & Education: Stay updated on tax legislation and industry trends, participating in educational opportunities.
- Special Projects: Contribute to various ad hoc projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
- Experience:
- 2-4 years of tax accounting experience, with some exposure to public accounting preferred.
- Strong understanding of tax principles and various tax laws, with practical application skills.
- Skills:
- Clear and organized communication (both written and verbal).
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, with experience in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics GP) and tax preparation software (ONESOURCE or similar) is a plus.
- Intermediate research skills and knowledge of tax/accounting research software.
- Soft Skills:
- Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with strong prioritization and project management abilities.
- Team-oriented, fostering a positive work environment in support of organizational goals.
- Other: Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
