About the Role
The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for the consistent fit of Men’s, Women’s, and Youth categories in each product line. A strong understanding of patternmaking and construction options to help support high quality and L2 cost parameters is essential. This role includes generating the timely development of all apparel tech packs, managing fittings and fit samples, and distributing fit comments to factory partners. Additional responsibilities are:
- Establish close partnership with Director of Apparel Development and Senior Designer to understand the brand, collection and style direction and aesthetic to facilitate the interpretation of design concepts.
- Manage the measuring and preparation of samples from development samples through production approval, including bulk production TOP samples.
- Partner with Senior Designer for garment construction that produces best results from each factory while considering cost of product.
- Execute the sample process by generating specification package with specs that are consistent with a similar style type.
- Ensure all labels, trims and placements are correctly represented in BOM.
- Lead fit evaluation sessions with designer on live models to analyze balance and proportions of fit.
- Fully review each spec and detail during the first proto fit process with the goal of approving the second fit to align with the design calendar deadlines and reduce wasted time and materials.
- Document fit findings and deliver clear communication through comments, specs, diagrams, sketches, mock-ups, garment re-construction, photos and comparison to block patterns.
- Maintain fit matrix and build basic block library with L2’s self-owned League Central America (LCA) facility for distribution to all Factories for consistency.
- Clear and timely communication while initiating follow up to all vendors and factories regarding comments on fit, construction, and grading.
- Make decisions with consideration to production efficiencies, costs and facts, not solely based on Technical Designer opinion.
- Ensure seasonal deadlines are met – partners with director to assess next steps when issues arise.
- Foster open communication and team environment with all business partners; receive constructive feedback professionally.
- Participate in departmental and cross-functional meetings as appropriate and record notes.

The Perspective and Experience You Bring Includes:
- 4-year college degree in related field of study or equivalent functional experience
- 10 years of related experience in Technical Design or Patternmaking
- Strong computer knowledge: Excel, PLM, and Illustrator
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
