Position Title: Senior Trust Officer
Department: Wealth Management/Trust
Position Reports to: Director of Trust
Position Supervises: Could supervise trust administrators or trust and probate associates
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under limited supervision, promote and sell investment management and trust services to prospective and existing customers; maintain our current client relationships and develop new client relationships in the areas of investment management, trust administration, estate and retirement planning and retirement benefit plans
- Prospect new business by identifying new customer bases, develop a plan to connect with potential clients, build new referral sources and generate referrals from existing clients.
- Work with Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Private Banking, and centers of influence and other business lines to perform joint calling activities and share prospect and customer opportunities coordinating sales efforts with bank lines
- Initiate external and internal contacts for the development and closing of new trust business by earning referrals from clients, internal business partners, and centers of influence; successfully work with centers of influence and the professional community to develop and cultivate a network of external referral partners
- Research the marketplace and consult with Portfolio Managers, Financial Advisors and other partners to provide clients with information on new and existing products and services. Contact clients with updates of new financial products or changes to legislation that may affect their savings and investments
- Utilize comprehensive fact and feeling finder to help client identify needs and goals. Analyze information and prepare plans best suited to the individual customer’s requirements
- Coordinate with specialists including other trust support personnel and service centers to deliver an integrated service to the client; identify problems and resolve them in an effective and timely manner to develop, retain and deepen trust account relationships
- Create, design, customize and present proposals and investment strategies to help clients reach personal financial goals
- Work with clients and clients' attorneys and other professional advisors to structure and price new trust/estate business
- Review, analyze and interpret all new legal and trust instruments to determine their acceptance for our platform as well as determine the duties and responsibilities of the trust platform in its capacity as Trustee, Co-Trustee, Custodian or Agent so all legal and tax implications are understood
- Emphasis will be on identifying quality relationships with potential for long-term, profitable business accomplished by working in a team environment to cultivate relationships.
- Proactive delivery and oversight of all estate settlement processes, make post-mortem elections, and work closely with tax professionals in the preparation of estate tax returns, gift tax returns, fiduciary tax returns and accountings for trusts and estates
- Manage a diversified trust book with attention to risk management issues, including: discretionary actions; on-going tax planning; communication with co-trustees, beneficiaries, and professional advisors; coordination of investment dialogue
- Faithfully execute our fiduciary duties, administering trusts in good faith in accordance with the terms and purposes of the trust instrument, while balancing the interests of the trust beneficiaries and adhering to department polices
- Complete reports and participate in various meetings
- Comply with internal security policies and procedures and maintain customer confidentiality
- Adhere to all regulations, policies, and record keeping requirements. Complete all required training related to bank regulations and policies
- Completes other duties as assigned
Education, Certification, License and Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of trust administration with CTFA designation or 15 years of WM experience with CTFA designation or CPA with experience in trust/probate tax matters
- Background and experience in the financial services industry
Skills and Knowledge:
- Responsible for knowing and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines, as detailed in policies that include but are not limited to Bank Secrecy Act and other applicable anti-money-laundering rules, Right to Financial Privacy, Fair Lending, Community Reinvestment Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and other laws and regulations as they pertain to the position.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear, stand or sit for long periods of time, open filing cabinets, walk, stoop or bend, use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and complete tasks requiring manual dexterity. Ability to drive a vehicle for travel is required for the position.
