Role Description:
- The VDI Engineer will support VDI Architect and senior engineers in day to day Operation and monitoring of the Enterprise Desktop and VDI Virtualization Technologies.
- Provide engineering leadership and subject matter expertise in the evaluation, development, and documentation of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and hosted/streamed applications
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications as assigned. Participates in special projects as required
- Build and maintain product and service standards for VDI capabilities that align with technology strategies
- Assist in the development of requirements, design specifications, and security considerations for the field office physical architecture
- Define and obtain approval of the Physical Architecture from the 2020 Census TI GPMO when required
- Primarily support day-to-day operations of the Citrix environment; includes proactive monitoring and management
- Perform intermediate issue analysis and resolution and assist with resolving issues escalated by Level-2 support
- Generate internal knowledge base articles and issue resolution scripts and maintain Level-2 troubleshooting workflows
- Perform basic server maintenance and operational procedures.
- Escalate ticket appropriate technology stakeholder if advanced skills or elevated permissions are required
- Generate requests for additional issue resolution scripts and knowledge base articles, as necessary
- Read built-in event logs for Windows and Citrix to do basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain stability and continuity of core and edge Citrix services: XenDesktop Broker services, Provision Services, NetScaler, NetScaler gateway, XenDesktop storefront services, File Servers, Storage appliances, Server Hardware, vDisk master image updating and Hypervisors
- May mentor/train peers to effectively respond to end user issues, providing technical guidance for colleagues with less experience on more complex issues. Has latitude for un-reviewed action and decision making
- Participates in on-call support rotation
- In addition to knowing the how, demonstrate the why something is implemented, changed, or deployed in that fashion
- Ensure the production environment is always available during normal and extended business hours
- Automate any repetitive tasks
- Technical certifications a plus VMware VCP, Citrix CCP, Citrix CCE, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, Cloud computeing
- Experience with VMware ESX in a clustered environment.
- 5 years or more as a Lead VDI Systems Engineer or Chief Engineer on a Large-Scale Mission Critical System of Systems Development and Integration Program.
- In-depth knowledge of Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp 7.x
- Must Know Citrix PVS version 7.x or higher very well. Must have had recent hands on experience. Must have created golden images, have done updates using versioning, must be familiar with and have hands on experience doing PVS reverse imaging. Must understand and can recite the entire PVS process workflow. Must understand how Virtual Infrastructure tools work in PVS and how they bind to the NIC cards and the process for updating them.
- Experience with installing, upgrading Citrix servers
- Experience with Citrix profile management and folder redirection
- Understanding of Microsoft Group Policy and Active Directory
- Extensive experience in Microsoft operating systems, both workstation and server.
- Must possess a strong technical understanding of Windows infrastructure services (e.g. AD, GPO, CIFS, and Client) within the enterprise.
- Administering and Troubleshooting XenApp / XenDesktop (version 6.x and newer)
- Must know, understand, and able to recite the process work flow for XenApp and Xendesktop. How to create a 7.x or higher farm and add members to that farm.
- Must be able to clearly articulate troubleshooting techniques based on scenarios proposed.
- Good understanding of Storefront, the process workflow, how to create Server groups etc.
- Understanding of ITIL framework
- Understanding of DR solutions
- Overall familiarity with Citrix/XenApp architecture
- Ability to publish, manage, and monitor user app sessions tuning and optimization
- Experience upgrading Citrix/XenApp to new versions
- Application testing and validation for new apps
- Experience with Load balancing of server/application
- Experience with Citrix Portal configuration management
- Familiarity with Citrix app client management and the deployment tools
