Responsibilities :
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems as they relate to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work in an accurate, timely and informed manner.
- Proactively seek and accept responsibility for solving new and difficult welding engineering challenges, while appropriately assessing and managing risks.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts across all levels of EMD and customer organizations via both verbal and written communication.
- Provide technical support and directions to a skilled labor force and to Weld Development Lab Technicians in support of materials, joining, testing and evaluation.
- Plan, support and execute procedure and personnel qualifications in accordance with the applicable welding code and contract requirements.
- Identify new and/or improved welding processes/techniques for improving EMD applications.
- Work with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve materials joining issues before and during manufacturing and provide technical support to suppliers and customers.
- Review supplier qualifications and procedures and provide support for audits of suppliers.
- Develop and manage materials joining work plans including schedules, budgets, and resource requirements to meet both EMD and project objectives.
- Mentor other engineers in area of expertise and assist with training and evaluation of less senior personnel.
Requirements :
- B.S. Degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science from an accredited institution (M.S. preferred).
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Extensive knowledge of arc welding processes (FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, and PTAW).
- Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following welding codes (ASME Section III & IX, AWS, and NAVSEA)
- Experience in working with carbon, low, high alloy and stainless steels, nickel, and copper-based alloys, as well as dissimilar metal welding.
- Prior experience as a welding, materials, or manufacturing engineer.
- Effective composition, documentation, and communication skills.
- Must be a team player, an innovative thinker and have a demonstrated commitment to quality and customer service.
- Must be US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.

- ASME Section III and IX, AWS or NAVSEA Processes
- Welding Engineering
- ARC Welding Procedures (FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW and PTAW)
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience
