Job Summary
The successful candidate will be exposed to the many facets of Operations and Maintenance, of the High Voltage Electrical Distribution System. If you enjoy the variety of challenging work outside of an office and want to develop communication, technical and mechanical abilities, the Service Helper position may be an excellent starting point for a career with Dominion Energy. More specifically, the successful candidate will develop skills to prepare themselves for potential advancement in Line-work, Substation, Design or Dispatch areas. As a Service Helper majority of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is considered "heavy labor".
**The pay-rate for this role is $29.27/hr. This role must be able to work a rotating shift. Eligible for premium pay for applicable overtime hours.
Specific Service Helper functions include but are not limited to the following activities:
Providing tools, materials, and supplies to Electric Line Worker
Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed on the worksite.
Driving trucks and ensuring they are properly stocked and maintained.
Preparing the equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments.
Operating various types of equipment used in the construction maintenance processes (excavators, backhoes, diggers, aerial lifts, etc.).
*This is a job that will require you to obtain a Class A CDL Learners permit within 30 days of hire. More details can be obtained by going to the DMV web site. You will be required to obtain a Class A CDL by the end of the 6th month from the hire date. Training and related expenses for the CDL with be paid for by Dominion Energy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Required Qualifications:
• Valid Drivers License and 18 years of age
• GED or HS diploma required
• Due to safety reasons working on equipment, must be able to maintain a body weight under 290 pounds
• A strong driving record which will allow the candidate to obtain a commercial driver’s license by the end of the sixth month of employment
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
• Ability to carry up to 60 pounds
• Ability to work on ladders and hydraulic lifts
• Ability to be on call and quickly respond to electrical restorations
• Ability to learn how to operate construction equipment and use hand tools
• Computer application aptitude
• Ability to work within a physically demanding work environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prefer Class A or Class B CDL Dominion will provide and pay for CDL training. Please check your local DMV website for eligibility requirements.
• Prefer Class A CDL permit
• Prefer OSHA 10 or 30 certification
• Prefer certification in CPR, First Aid, or AED
• Previous experience in working with mechanical or electrical concepts and applications
• Background in the military is a plus
• Background in construction or related work environments
• Background in working outdoors
Education Requirements
- GED or HS diploma required.
- Technical/Associates degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated related experience may be substituted for formal degrees or certificates.
Related Military Occupations:
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Test Description
This job requires "recommended" test results from Modern Hire Electric Ground Worker Virtual Job Tryout administered online. The assessment is untimed, but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete.
