About the Job
Ensures that the terminal maintenance shop is operated in an efficient and problem-free manner, and that all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained in a timely and accurate manner to limit workflow interruptions and/or problems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates the daily and long-term scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of Company equipment to ensure the safest and most cost-effective operations.
- Authorizes and subsequently reviews all repairs to equipment. Organizes and assigns departmental workload to maximize efficiency and quality of mechanics' performances.
- Instructs, guides, supervises, motivates, and evaluates mechanics regarding the daily performance of their assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable Company policies and procedures.
- Coordinates availability of equipment with the Operations department to efficiently schedule routine maintenance programs, as well as any emergency maintenance procedures.
- Oversees and authorizes purchasing of routine and special order mechanical parts, tires, and oil to ensure appropriate and timely availability of components for maintenance as needed. Monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness of purchases.
- Oversees and ensures prompt and accurate data entry into the computerized maintenance system, TMT.
- Reviews work orders and time spent on jobs on a daily and weekly basis to ensure accuracy, quality, and efficiency of shop performance, and takes corrective action as required.
- Resolves problems that arise in the shop in an impartial and effective manner, guided by Company policies and procedures, as well as any applicable local, state, or federal statutes or regulations.
- Maintains constantly updated familiarity with D.O.T, manufacturer, and PGT Trucking, Inc. regulations and requirements for all equipment serviced by the shop.
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with other PGT Trucking Inc. departments and employees.
- Ensures that all activity in the area of responsibility is conducted in accordance with the Company's safety program and all related procedures and practices.
- Ensures that all subordinates are trained in appropriate safety procedures, regularly updated on new safety regulations, and consistently adhere to all safety protocols.
- Conducts regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, implementing corrective actions promptly.
- Promotes a culture of safety within the shop, encouraging open communication regarding safety concerns and suggestions for improvement.
- Performs other related duties as required by business necessity or assigned by management.
