Service customer accounts by connecting, disconnecting and changing meters, handling overdue accounts, investigating customer service complaints and specifying meter, service and area light locations.This position reports to the Harrisburg Service Center. This posting will be active for all Local 1600 members from ________________
Responsibilities:- Connects, disconnects, changes, installs and removes self-contained single and polyphase meters in accordance with company procedures.
- Contacts customers having overdue accounts; disconnects customer's service for non-payment and reconnects as directed or required; accepts payments from customers and accounts for such payments promptly and properly.
- Records on pertinent forms, meter and customer data required for customer and other accounting records.
- Investigates customer service complaints involving voltage, no light complaints, shock, flickering lights and similar inquiries.
- Performs initial investigations to locate underground cables by using simple cable locating instruments.
- Observes and reports irregular and hazardous service conditions for correction by customer or company.
- Specifies meter, service and area light locations and changes fastening of meter base and service equipment.
- Operates light truck or automobile in the performance of duties.
- Installs and removes recording voltmeters to satisfy customer inquiries.
- Performs miscellaneous duties, such as: reading meters, obtaining security deposits, delivery material and other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
- Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
- Successfully passing the EEI CAST test or its replacement.
- Ability to understand and apply information contained in, but not limited to the following:
- Meter Reading Manual
- Safety Rule Book
- Company's Rules for Electric Service and Meter Installation
- Underwriter's Code applicable to work performed
- Installation and connection of self-contained single and polyphase meters
- Customer classifications and rate schedules
- Rules, policies and practices pertaining to overdue accounts
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to:
- Understand and implement instructions
- Make minor decisions
- Perform moderately strenuous labor over sustained periods outdoors
- Write legibly
- Contact customers and general public in courteous and tactful manner
- Neat in dress, appearance and presents favorable image.
- Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and make use of assigned safety equipment to prevent accidents.

- Demonstrate initiative, dependability and accuracy in planning and performing work.
- Demonstrate effective manner in handling customer collections and complaints.
- Satisfactorily complete voltage and service assignments.
- Quantity and quality of work performed meets the level of normal standards for a Serviceman.
