Position Function/Nature of Work:
Work is performed under the supervision of the Utilities Superintendent. The Utilities Service Worker III is involved daily with the operations, installation, maintenance and repair of the City of Davenport's Water and Sewer Utility systems. The Utilities Service Worker III will be required to utilize the City's Work Order program, as well as generate, process, track, and assign work orders from the Utilities Superintendent.

- Assist Utilities Superintendent the select, assign, direct, and evaluate work of the junior Utilities Service Workers (semi-skilled and skilled) engage in the installation, maintenance and repairs of the City utility systems.
- Assist in the supervision and participates in work concerned with the installation, maintenance and repair of domestic water distribution and/or sanitary sewage collection systems.
- Assist the assigned personnel in proper techniques of installation, maintenance and repairs of machinery and appurtenances used in the maintenance of distribution and collection systems.
- Participate in the installation and repairs of water mains, hydrants and other activities associated with water system maintenance.
- Participate with other Utilities staff in the installation and repairs of water meters as needed.
- Contacts property owners in areas where equipment and crews will be working to make necessary arrangements for installation and maintenance activities.
- Reports actions and results to Utilities Superintendent.
- Responds to emergency calls, assigns and assists as needed to correct problems.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to operate various types of equipment required in the installation and maintenance
- Knowledge of installation and maintenance of utility systems such as backhoes, dump trucks, forklift, low-boy tractor trailer, pumps and various other small equipment used in the maintenance of utility systems.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to utility installation and safety precautions applicable to utility installation and maintenance programs.
- Knowledge to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of others.
- Knowledge to understand and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
- Knowledge to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge and agility to perform various job duties in all weather conditions including lifting and/or interacting with job related appurtenances and equipment which might weight in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
- Knowledge to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination.
- Knowledge to see ambulate independently, drive, bend stoop, sit and stand.
- Knowledge to make independent decisions.
- Knowledge to see colors.
- Knowledge to post and track data or other record keeping information by written notations and/or entering such information into the City's work system.
- Knowledge of reports and/or reviews records necessary to ensure that all regulations governing installation and maintenance are fully complied with by assigned staff.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in installation, maintenance and repairs of potable water and/or sewer utility systems.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory capacity.
Special Requirement:
Must be willing to work overtime and on-call duty, as determined by the City Manager or the Department Director.
Other requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida drivers' license.
- Must possess an honorable military discharge if applicant has been service connected.
- Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
- Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must possess a Level "3" Distribution License or obtain within the one year of the probationary period.
- Must posses a current and valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or obtain within the one year of the probationary period.
Comments:
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
