PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of this position is to support production in the assigned area (Lathes/Mills) by performing efficient and safe machine setup, documenting all processes and improvements to setups and programs to ensure consistent and repeatable results. This position will also work with production management to identify, support, and execute continuous improvement efforts to meet and or exceed production goals.
Shifts:
- First Shift: 6:30am-3:00pm
- Second Shift: 3:00p-11:30pm
- Ability to work flexible work schedules, such as different shifts during training, earlier start times, and overtime as needed including the weekends.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follow existing documented policies and procedures as designated by the company's Quality System and create/document new policies and procedures to continuously improve setups, programs, and overall manufacturing.
- Participate in and sustain lean manufacturing and 5S activities and improvements.
- Provide and document continuous improvement techniques on lowering set up times, improving manufacturing production rates, machining methods, quality, and safety requirements.
- Develop, prepare, optimize, and maintain CNC programs, part fixturing, tooling development, and set-up procedures.
- Maintains documentation for process equipment "Lathe/Mills Facilities" such as setup sheets, monitoring sheets, etc.
- Work with Production Management to schedule back-up operators to run production in your assigned facility to cover for open positions, absences and or vacations.
- Train operators/tenders on the RBS processes, procedures and parts that are run on the facilities in your assigned area to ensure facility on time delivery metric is met.
- Work with additional Setup Technicians as needed to lower set up times.
- Work with Process Technician to write and or update CNC programs as needed and control use of CNC programs to assure only approved programs are being used by operators/tenders.
- Perform set ups for the production operator/tender at the CNC facilities in your assigned area.
- Perform set ups as needed on the manual lathes/mills for production operator/tenders.
- Perform first piece inspection, complete all quality and production paperwork needed for the first piece inspection and any subsequent machine adjustment inspections as needed and to monitor that all follow up in-process inspections are being performed by the tender.
- Oversee scrap process for assigned facility to assure process is being followed and proper documentation is being filled out completely.
- Assure daily preventative maintenance is performed on facilities in assigned area.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and assist the maintenance team when needed to reduce machine downtime.
- Meet or improve production standards.
- Report production time accurately and timely.

EQUIPMENT USED:
CNC Lathes, Mills, and other manual and programmable machines, CMM, comparator, micrometers, dial gages, calipers, and various machining tools (drills and taps), etc.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education required.
- Associate Degree or equivalent technical degree preferred.
Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in CNC turning and machining centers.
- 1-3 years experience in G & M code and parametric programming
- Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Familiar with CMM
