Students here have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years. The program helps them to complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, provides transitional support services, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps graduates either enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military.
Purpose:Reports to the Training/Program Director. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing programs that encourage student collaboration/participation and contribute to positive normative culture on the center. Serves as a positive role model for students by enforcing appropriate behavior and by maintaining a helpful, responsible, and concerned attitude.
Your Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and oversees programs and activities that are enriching, engaging, and supportive of the Career Success Standards (CSS).
- Actively supervises and participates in programs/activities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students.
- Works closely with Counseling and Career Training departments to teach leadership training and plan activities for non-residential students. Liaisons with outside partners and center staff to coordinate community service activities.
- Facilitates peer leadership programs (e.g., Keepers of the Culture, Student Safety Cadets) and assists with monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness, collaborating with other departments when necessary.
- Uses holistic assessments and student requests to design programs tailored to students’ needs in the Job Corps program.
- Consults with individuals from different cultural heritages and identities in order to create cultural learning opportunities and events.
- Supervises SGA-coordinated/sponsored events, activities, and initiatives; organizes incentives and team-building opportunities for SGA members; recruits potential members.
- Supports students and staff in promoting programs and clubs in order to increase student participation and collaboration.
- Advises peer leaders in creating and maintaining student-run clubs.
- Conducts student focus groups and surveys to assess student satisfaction.
- Assesses center culture, identifies best practices and behavior trends, and suggests changes.
- Identifies issues that contribute to negative center culture (e.g., poor student-staff interaction) and brainstorms ideas to address these issues through center programs.
- Publicizes and consistently enforces the Zero Tolerance Policy and anti-bullying measures. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Associate’s degree is desirable.
- Experience: Two years of related experience. Previous experience working with youth desirable
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to facilitate student programs and peer leadership classes
Ability to conduct student focus groups
Ability to promote the CSS by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
Strong organizational skills · Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
• If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
• 1-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
Additional Requirements: Must have valid driver's license and adequate vehicle insurance coverage.
