Department Summary
The Division of Student Life supports the University's academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success, while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four departments, the University Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, and Physical Education & Recreation, and a number of key programs including the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Student Government Engagement & Success, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.
The Office of the Vice President for Student Life provides the vision for and oversight of the Division's departments, programs, and initiatives. The Vice President's administrative staff provides key administrative, strategic, financial, human resources and campus-wide student support.
Position Summary
The SGES Leadership Advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting and guiding ASUO (Associated Students of the University of Oregon) Student Senators and activities sponsored by the ASUO Executive Branch. This position is active in advising student officers, overseeing large-scale events, and fostering partnerships which enhance student leadership and engagement within the student affairs framework.
This position will develop a strong knowledge base of rules, policies, and procedures as they relate to student government and will be expected to communicate and educate student leaders on leadership skills and effective governance.
This position reports to the SGES Assistant Director and is not eligible for remote work.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree.
• Prior experience in student government or student leadership on a college or university campus.
Professional Competencies
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively advise and support student leaders.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and maintain positive relationships with campus stakeholders.
• Familiarity with event planning, safety protocols, and policy adherence within a university setting.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in all aspects of student engagement and support.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience as a student government officer or advisor.
• Experience working within political structures or democratic systems.
