Summary
The Sheet Metal Helper reports to the Sheet Metal Mechanic and in some cases the CES Job Foreman or Superintendent. Responsibilities for the Helper include a range of fabrication and installation jobs for industrial and commercial customers. Daily job stress will run from minimal to moderate, based on such factors as the weather, site considerations, time constraints, and job needs. An average workday will be minimally stressful.
Essential Duties
- Comply with all safety guidelines and attend weekly tool talks
- Assisting Sheet Metal Mechanic in the fabricating and installing assemblies and systems in buildings or work sites according to blueprints, specifications, and other resource information using hand tools, portable power tools, and other specialized equipment
- Assist in inspecting assemblies and installation work for conformance with plans, specifications, and trade standards, using the naked eye as well as measuring instruments, such as measuring tape, rule, plumb bob, or level
- Assist sheet metal mechanic with routine fabrication and installation activities with direct oversight and on-site assistance
- Help set up/operate soldering and welding equipment, fabricating machines, etc.
- Install AHU/RTU, fan/VAV, hangers, metal duct, flex, and GRD
- Cut fiberglass duct and fittings
- Install fiberglass duct and fittings
- Measure, size, cut, and apply duct insulation
- May erect scaffolding reposition scissors lift.
- May assist in assembling, lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation
- Load, transport, unload and furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary
- May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment
- May smooth seams, joints, or burred surfaces, using files or grinders
- Perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft people
- Participate in training with CES employees on installation-related subjects
- May assist non-installation work in support of the Fabrication Shop and Service Departments, as assigned
- Perform related duties as directed by the applicable Sheet Metal Mechanic or CES Job Foreman
Non-Essential Duties
- Cross-train within the department to provide backup coverage as needed
- Use self-initiative to remain current with industry trends (engage in webinars, virtual conferences, educational reading, etc.)
- Accept and perform other work as assigned
Experience
Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Must not have fear of heights (Acrophobia)
- Good verbal and reading skills, with a proven ability to apply manufacturers' instructions and clearly communicate with customers, suppliers, and other CES employees
- Able to use arms and hands to reach, handle and manipulate objects
- Possess basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Possess basic knowledge of manufacturers control system software
- Individuals must wear safety glasses as required while performing certain tasks
- Ability to work under pressures of time, a non-standard schedule, weather, customer needs, and backlog constraints
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid Florida Driver's License is required
- Incumbent must be insurable at all times by CES insurance carrier

Local and occasional out-of-town travel within Florida is required.
