STATEMENT OF THE JOB: Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director, Community Programs Director, with direct supervision of the Shelter Manager. The Shelter Support Staff will be responsible for the day-to-day support of the shelter, services, health, and safety of the facility and guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assisting eligible clients with intake, services, and referrals as needed.
- Refer to appropriate agencies or begin the application process.
- Maintain knowledge of all community programs and services.
- Following Agency, ESG, CSBG, United Way, and other regulations as related.
- Maintain relationships with service providers, volunteers, staff, and community members.
- Responsible for the shelter's daily operations, including food service, facility's cleanliness, safety, and security, to ensure a safe and effective environment for employees, individuals, volunteers, and visitors.
- Maintain inventory of shelter supplies and donations for shelter operations.
- Strong communication with supervisor of client interactions and incidents.
- Conduct crisis intervention as needed.
- Responsible for entering and maintaining accurate data in the homeless management information system (HMIS) and the agency database GoEngage or other software systems as assigned.
- Clearly understand data requirements for CSBG reporting and program.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respects confidentiality in all aspects of the programs without inappropriately divulging it.
- Follow CAPCA’s policies and procedures at facilities.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal shelter policies and procedures.
- Follow mandatory reporting procedures.
- Must be willing to participate in all training designed for professional development.
- Able to handle stress, tension and exasperation that contact with adults may bring every day.
- May be called upon to administer first aid at any time in the program. The incidental nature of this circumstance effectively establishes first aid as a collateral duty, rather than a primary one.
- Performs other job-related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the programs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge and experience working in shelter setting (Preferred).
- Experience in managing records and preparing written documents, reports, and other materials both hard copies and electronically.
- CPR and First Aid Certified within 12 months.
Physical Requirements:

- Good physical condition.
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule, which meets the needs of the Agency.
- Have a valid driver's license, access to transportation with liability insurance and be willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
- Able to hear and communicate orally.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some items may occasionally exceed this limit, use necessary protective equipment and/or get help as needed.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
Personal Traits:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a dedicated interest in community service projects.
- Have initiative and ability to motivate groups of people and to stimulate group action.
- Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Agency.
- Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.

Currently budgeted for 12 months per year.
Hours: Full-Time position, Mon.- Thurs. Evening Hours $ 13.00
Mon-Thurs. Nights $13.50
Fri., Sat., and Sun. Days $13.50 and Evening Hours $14.50
