About the Job
Metals USA, is currently looking for a Shipping Assistant for our Port City/Tulsa, OK location. The Shipping Assistant inspects incoming shipments to make sure that they include the appropriate items and that each item is undamaged, record and sign for shipments, unload trucks and/or organize the items that they unload.
* Verifies and keeps records on incoming items: Compares identifying information and counts, or measures items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
* Provides clerical support as directed by the plant manager.
* Maintains and files purchase orders.
* Provides support to Sales office personnel as well as assists in inventory control.
* Takes delivery of incoming facility supplies as necessary.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
* Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with sales department or buyer to rectify damages and shortages
* Directs items to departments.
* May operate fork-lift truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving area to storage or work area.
* Schedules appointments for incoming shipments with drivers and dispatchers.

* High school diploma or GED
* Minimum 18 years of age
* Reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety, and policy manuals)
* Measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper, gauges, or micrometer
* Must have mechanical aptitude and arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions
* Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator
* Must be proficient in the use of hand tools including grinder
* Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
* Computer Literacy; Microsoft Products, CAD Programming and ERP
* Must be organized with attention to detail
* Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
