Overview
The S/R Supervisor manages the Shipping/Receiving department. Works closely with Information Systems, Purchasing, Production Control, and production departments. Evaluates, recommends and implements changes in Shipping/Receiving systems and procedures. Works with production Managers to effect changes to material handling systems and procedures.
Responsibilities
Directly supervises activities and performance of the shipping, receiving, transportation and warehouse personnel. Is responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. Controls the Work Instructions, which specify the activities in these functions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include determining staffing levels, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Guides the direction of Shipping/Receiving, Transportation and Non-manufacturing related material handling, maintaining their commitment to continuous improvement and support of internal and external customers.
- Studies and standardized procedures to improve efficiency of functions. Proposes changes and assures successful implementation of approved improvements.
- Composes and maintains Work Instructions regarding Shipping/Receiving, Transportation, Gateway, and Warehouse operations. Ensures that all appropriate personnel are trained in current applicable Work Instructions, Quality System Procedures, and Safety and Health instructions.
- Specifies and recommends the purchase of departmental equipment and supplies. Coordinates maintenance & calibration.
- Maintains attendance and vacation schedules and updates data-net.
- Maintains cooperation and teamwork among workers and resolves problems.
- Other duties as assinged.
Qualifications
Associate's degree from two-year college or university or at least 3-5 years' in a manufacturing environment. Inventory experience in a MRP environment. Inventory experience in a pull system/Kanban environment.
Working knowledge of computers and Information Systems.
Experience with Project Planning and Management.
Ability to facilitate, lead, and coach employees, bringing out the best in people and helping them to develop the highest level of skills and accomplishments.
APICS/C.P.I.M. Certification is preferred.
