Job Summary: Join our dynamic team as a Shipping Supervisor! In this critical role, you will coordinate all facets of shipping for our clients products.You will act as a vital link between multiple departments, ensuring seamless tracking and coordination of outbound, interplant, and third-party shipmentsboth domestic and international. Your leadership will help maintain high standards of efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, ultimately contributing to customer satisfaction through reliable and timely delivery of our products.
Essential Functions:
Safety Training and Compliance:
- Conduct regular safety training for shipping personnel, covering proper lifting techniques, material handling equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, implementing corrective actions and ensuring proper documentation.
- Oversee shipping activities, ensuring all shipments meet quality standards.
- Manage shipping charges and ensure accurate posting for each item shipped.
- Compile and track unfulfilled orders, collaborating with production for timely processing.
- Direct shipment movement from shipping points to storage/work areas.
- Inspect loading operations for compliance with shipping specifications.
- Read shipping documents to determine priorities and methods for timely deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with regulations related to hazardous materials, customs, and international shipping.
- Prepare necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading and export paperwork.
- Coordinate repairs for defective materials with maintenance or external providers.
- Manage financial transactions related to shipping services.
- Perform regular inventory reconciliations in the shipping area.
- Follow up on order holds and manage discrepancies with vendors.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements and communicate suggestions to management.
- Ensure stock availability to prevent shortages impacting shipping timelines.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to shipping and generate reports for analysis.
- Collaborate with departments like customer service and procurement to optimize shipping processes.
- Map current shipping processes and document each step for comprehensive workflow understanding.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline shipping processes, implementing lean principles as needed.
- Explore and integrate technology solutions for optimized shipping operations, collaborating with IT and logistics teams.
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for shipping activities, ensuring best practices are followed.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, fostering teamwork and high performance standards.
- Set performance objectives and conduct regular progress evaluations, recommending improvements.
- Maintain strong relationships with preferred carriers and handle special transportation requests.
- Train and empower employees for increased involvement and self-direction.
- Participate in the hiring process for vacant positions.
- Communicate company policies and expectations to employees, fostering an open-door policy.
- Ensure compliance with export documentation and record retention policies.
- Maintain a database for individual country shipping requirements and provide documentation for visibility to customers.
- Conduct compliance audits for export records and manage return issues or damaged freight.
- Bachelors degree in Logistics Management, Operations Management, Business, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in shipping, logistics, or transportation within a global manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and proficiency in Windows-based applications.
- Professional certifications in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., ISM, APICS) are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of domestic and international logistics operations, including import and export compliance.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to interact effectively across departments.
- Action-oriented with a keen ability to identify opportunities and solve problems.
- Detail-oriented and capable of completing tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
