About the Job
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide a professional atmosphere for the customer
• Provide a quality product at a fair price with a quick turnaround time
• Dedicate one (1) hour per day minimum to closing work orders
• Supervise leads and shop technicians
• Manage the budget assigned to the area to keep costs under control and profits in
perspective
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
• Maintain and develop a crew willing and able to produce a quality product, keeping their skill
levels high by providing ongoing training and by continuing to challenge their current skills
• Be certain, in the selection of new personnel, that the choice for the open position is both
skilled and compatible with the rest of the crew
• Complete annual performance reviews on each crewmember as required, as well as offer
praise or discipline as necessary
• Direct and control maintenance of shop equipment, including crane and forklift
• Open and close work orders
• Perform visits to review service work, technical problems and invoices with customers
• Initiate pay changes and paperwork for new or departing employees
• Conduct monthly shop service safety meetings
• Initiate warranty claims and write up data for warranty clerk
• Control warranty parts retention
• Assist in capital equipment and tool projections
• Communicate service department operation needs and goals with service manager on regular
basis
• Direct, control repair and maintenance of the building and grounds in coordination with
branch manager
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Vo-tech, college or prior work experience that enhances knowledge, skill and abilities
• Prior managerial and/or dealership experience
• Ability to manage people
• Decision making and problem solving skills
• Basic computer skills
• Written and oral communication skills
• Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to change
• Mechanical knowledge with an understanding and basic knowledge of service operations
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
• Working hours vary 8 to 12 depending or workload and projects
• Sit 6-8 hours per day
• Walk and/or stand 1-3 hours per day
• Some travel required and may stay overnight occasionally
