Short Order Cook (Hourly)
Short order cooks prepare cook-to-order foods that require only a short time to prepare. Some may take orders directly from customers as well as serve the food they have prepared to customers. Typical foods prepared by short order cooks include hot and cold sandwiches, side dishes and salads. Short order cooks may be required to cook dinner specials.
Responsibilities
Clean food preparation equipment, work areas, counters and tables.
Candidates should have a high school diploma, equivalent GED or graduation certificate. Experience is preferred but willing to train. Must know how to safely use food service equipment such as knives, ovens, grills, and fryers. Must be able to stand for most, if not their entire shift. Must be able to occasionally pull, push, carry and lift. Must pay strong attention to cleanliness and follow personal cleanliness rules and maintain an appearance appropriate for the profession. Must be able to communicate orally. Other duties as assigned.

- Plan work on orders so that items served together are finished at the same time.
- Grill, cook, and fry foods such as French fries, eggs, burgers, pancakes, etc.
- Take orders from customers and cook foods requiring short preparation times, according to customer requirements.
- Grill and garnish hamburgers or other meats such as steaks, chops, etc.
- Complete orders from team tables, placing food on plates and serving customers at tables.
- Perform simple food preparation tasks such as making sandwiches, carving meats, and brewing coffee, hot chocolate, etc.
- Order supplies and stock them on shelves.
- Accept payments, and make change or write charge slips as necessary from customers.
- Must store unused food properly following restaurant and U.S. Department of Health sanitation guidelines.
