The Spirit of the Position:
The SMF Safety Trainer will support the Safety Manager in promoting a safety-first culture. They will help oversee classroom and field trainings, perform driver evaluations, and inform safety policy in support of the Safety Manager and the Shuttle Assistant General Manager, helping ensure the overall operational success of the shuttle operation during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Align employees with our mission, values, and practices
- Provide classroom and field training to new hires
- Evaluate new hires for road readiness using established criteria and documents provided by Safety Manager
- Assist Safety Manager in conducting monthly safety training meetings for all employees
- Provide behind-the-wheel training of all employees
- Conduct evaluations of all drivers on a regular basis as determined by the Safety Manager
- Provide feedback of employees to Safety Manager with recommendations based on field evaluations and observations, including recommended specific re-training as needed
- Completes documentation in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements
- Assist Safety Manager in maintaining location’s DOT compliance
- Assist Safety Manager in preparing and maintaining driver DOT files
- Assist Safety Manager in identifying safety concerns and/or hazards in the field
- Assist Safety Manager in identifying ways to improve existing policies and procedures to allow for continued improvement of safety culture
- Assist Safety Manager in the continued development of SMF safety training program
- Assist Safety Manager in development and implementation of a safety incentive program
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Class B license with air brake and passenger endorsements
- Three (3) years’ experience in a commercial transportation or paratransit operation
- Two (2) years’ supervisory experience in a commercial transportation or paratransit operation
- Pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Clean DMV MVR
- Familiarity with DOT rules and regulations
- Familiarity with ADA rules and regulations
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Preferences:
- Five (5) years’ experience in a commercial transportation or paratransit operation
- Three (3) years’ experience in a commercial transportation or paratransit operation
- TSI Certification
- Smith System Certification
- Experience in a parking operation
- Experience at an airport location Familiarity with a drive cam/telematics
