About the Job
At UWM, a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for providing cutting edge monitoring solutions for our applications and infrastructure, support on outages, reduction of our mean time to resolution and consulting with Architects and Developers on the development of stable, healthy applications and infrastructure. An ideal SRE is uptime-focused, capable of building out monitoring, and can support our teams in every stage of the development lifecycle, from analysis and design to developing, testing, release and maintenance while adhering to current System Development Methodology (SDM) processes. In addition, a Senior SRE is expected to drive role-related process improvements and mentor less-tenured team members. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:- We’re reintroducing SREs into our organization, and you’ll be collaborating with leadership and team members to establish best practices, processes, reporting, and expectations for the SRE role
- Troubleshooting production issues with a goal towards minimal mean time to resolution and prevention of future issues
- Developing projects and helping maintain system architecture
- Helping document solution architecture, and training Developers on its usage
- Using best practices to create and improve process flow
- Utilizing problem solving skills to recognize opportunities and design and implement effective solutions
- Mentoring and helping onboard new and less tenured SREs
- Contributing to a supportive, collaborative and engaging environment
- Facilitating communication amongst your team, and between teams to ensure success
- Providing clear and concise communication to leadership at all levels on a regular cadence
Must Have:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in application development or application support
- 2 years exp. in SRE or similar role
- Understanding of enterprise infrastructure systems
- C# development experience, as well as knowledge of a variety of other web development languages
- Strong understanding of relational databases and ability to query and modify data with SQL
- Expert knowledge of object-oriented programming
- Experience unit testing
- Knowledge of SOLID principles
- Strong documentation/note-taking skills
- Excellent verbal communication and client service skills
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to execute every strategic step, from identification to resolution, with urgency.
- Ability to work 100% on-site in Pontiac, Michigan
Nice to Have:
- Computer science degree
- Experience with an observability platform, in particular Dynatrace
- Log management experience
- Application performance monitoring experience
- Windows Server 2022 / Microsoft SQL Server
- Linux OS
- Experience with Jira
- Experience with containers (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Experience with DevOps in the cloud (Azure, GCP)
- Experience with build tools (Jenkins, TeamCity, Team Builds)
- Experience with GIT-based source control tools (Azure DevOps, BitBucket, GitHub)
- Experience with deployment & configuration tools (Octopus, XL Deploy, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
- Experience using web-based technologies (ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS)
- Experience with package management tools (NuGet, ProGet, Nexus)
- Experience with database automation (RedGate, Datical, Liquibase)
