About the Job
This position is accountable for participating in the vision and strategy for the Transmission Siting Organization, by overseeing the siting of new lines and substations, rebuilds, and program work on the electric transmission system. The objective of this position is to assure that siting work conducted on PPLs behalf adheres to regulatory requirements and internal processes and procedures. The position demands professional knowledge of siting, and the ability to coordinate with various functional organizations and contractors to accomplish the goals and objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities:Siting Specialist:
1. Coordinate with both internal resources and contract companies to conduct siting studies evaluate alternatives and select preferred routes/sites using decision analysis and problem solving techniques
2. Oversee, and manage external siting contract companies to satisfy regulatory, environmental, and community relation issues related to new or re-built transmission lines and substations.
3. Be accountable to ensure PPL's process, procedures and policies are being followed and scope, schedule, and budget are met for assigned projects whether siting activities are performed internally or by contractors.
4. Problem solves and reduces or eliminates siting risks.
5. Perform consistency reviews on siting applications prepared by others or prepare siting applications for PUC submission.
6. Coordinate and attend public interface meetings, often held in the evenings.
7. Work with Right-of-Way on land acquisition requirements to resolve negotiation issues with property owners.
8. Interface with governmental agencies, municipalities, and customers.
9. Participate in storm restoration efforts as assigned in designated areas.
Lead Siting Specialist:
1. Be the subject matter expert in siting; coordinate with contract companies to evaluate alternatives and select preferred routes/sites using decision analysis and problem solving techniques.
2. Work with siting contract companies to ensure PPLs process, procedures and policies are being met and ensure the projects are on target for scope, schedule, and budget.
3. Problem solves and reduces or eliminates siting risks.
4. Review and QC siting applications for PUC submission.
5. Attend public interface meetings, often held in the evenings.
6. Work with Right-of-Way on land acquisition requirements to resolve negotiation issues with property owners.
7. Interface with governmental agencies, municipalities, and customers.
8. Participate in storm restoration efforts as assigned in designated areas.
Siting Specialist:
1. Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar 2-year degree with 2 years experience.
2. A minimum of 3 years of utility/environmental experience in the areas of siting, permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessment, or engineering.
3. Basic knowledge of PUC regulations, utility, environmental or real estate terminology, practices and methods.
4. Interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, presentation, conducting effective meetings, team facilitation or management with demonstrated diplomacy/tact.
Sr Siting Specialist:
1. Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar 2-year degree with 2 years experience.
2. A minimum of 5 years of utility/environmental experience in the areas of siting, permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessment, or engineering.
3. Basic knowledge of PUC regulations, utility, environmental or real estate terminology, practices and methods.
4. Interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, presentation, conducting effective meetings, team facilitation or management with demonstrated diplomacy/tact.
Lead Siting Specialist:
1. Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar 2-year degree with 2 years experience.
2. A minimum of 7 years of utility/environmental experience in the areas of siting, permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessment, or engineering.
3. Basic knowledge of PUC regulations, utility, environmental or real estate terminology, practices and methods.
4. Interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, presentation, conducting effective meetings, team facilitation or management with demonstrated diplomacy/tact.
