About the Job
Under the direction of the Director - Skyway, the Skyway Engineer performs standard engineering tasks to ensure system repairs and maintenance requirements meet specified quality levels. The position manages and provides technical support in the investigation, repair and overhaul of Skyway Automated People Mover (Skyway) systems removed from service. The position also works with the management team to develop, communicate and achieve strategic goals in areas such as Fleet uptime, vehicle/system failures, and quality and delivery assurance.

The Skyway Engineer is an in-office position requiring collaboration with colleagues and interaction with customers. Physical demands may include: keyboarding/typing/using a computer mouse, repetitive motion, and sitting for prolonged periods.
Essential Function(s):
- Address infrastructure needs, signaling, vehicle system, train control, and digital mobility solutions. Lead and support projects to develop procedures, test cases, methods and equipment.
- Develop standardized and reusable (from system to subsystem) test cases and troubleshooting methods in compliance with standards and traceability requirements.
- Diagnose and repair various components removed from service such as test rig breakdowns. Liaise with Skyway, subsystems technical support, and external engineering support to correctly identify root cause(s) of units returned from service.
- Provide specialist electronics support to workshop technicians to meet the business turnaround time and business performance targets. Develop and provide training in coordination with the Training Department to enhance technical capabilities of the Maintenance team.
- Conduct peer reviews and provide technical leadership to team. Design special tools and test equipment required for testing and commissioning. Ensure compliance to standards and provide technical leadership to ensure reliability, testability and maintainability of product to requirements. Ensure data is recorded in designated tool M(s) (e.g., Maximo).
- Plan, coordinate, assign, and supervise work of fleet maintenance personnel, including mechanics and utility employees. Help prepare maintenance and system operations budget. Maintain labor, material and equipment records and prepare other related reports. Analyze and evaluate work activities to determine cost, efficiency, and compliance with established budgetary guidelines.
- Assist in preparing specifications for fleet vehicles and wayside equipment and preparing bids or Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Responsible for safety plan, maintenance plan, and maintenance policies and procedures. Coordinate system service activities, prepare industry required reports, and establish lean practices. Review and evaluate vehicle conditions and advise department heads of this evaluation.
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or closely related field, from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in business administration, engineering, finance, fleet management, or similar duties.
- Advanced degree. Prior experience in the transportation industry. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to initiate any Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP), and Failure Management System Recovery (FMSR) procedure when needed.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and equipment related to vehicle maintenance and repair. Knowledge of principles and practices of effective administration and supervision.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and accident prevention methods in assigned area of responsibility.
- Knowledge of employee and labor relations and experience working with union employees. Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations Section 1415 regarding rail fixed guideway systems.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with employees of all levels within an organization and with external customers and stakeholders.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced functions in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must be able to comprehend and apply operational and safety procedures. Ability to follow procedures and direct action often under stressful conditions.
- Ability to track work request through Oracle Network.
- Ability to maintain a complex data base system for daily reports.
- Ability to work on multiple functions simultaneously. Ability to lead a team, or be a participant, regardless of position within the Authority. Ability to retain records, prepare reports, and maintain files.
