Job Title: Sleep Technician
Overall Position Summary and Objectives: Under this task order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
Weekly Hours/Schedule: 24 hours/week, Monday - Friday on nights
Work Location: NIMH - Bethesda, Maryland

Responsibilities:
- Ensure patient employee safety, and Quality Assurance
- Triage and advise clinical staff on additional sleep testing parameters when other information may be useful or must be obtained to promote research goals
- Perform daytime testing according to AASM Guidelines and established policies and procedures
- Employ a high level of expertise regarding sleep peripheral sensors and their application to a specific patient population or category of patient when performing sleep studies
- Score sleep studies within the AASM Service Directors guidelines; score all sleep studies; prepare reports for review and interpretation by the Service Director
- Troubleshoot all equipment; monitor the condition of diagnostic equipment and repair replacement of the same; ensure patient employee safety, and Quality Assurance
- Ensure that scoring and reports provided by technicians and sleep technologists are consistent, reliable and adhere to the same standards as outlined by the Service Director
- Maintain availability by phone for technologists working at night to help troubleshoot technical equipment needs, or other challenges that may arise during study acquisition
- Score research data acquisitions
- Periodically monitor other scored records to ensure that reliability is maintained
- Perform polysomnographic recording based on individual patient requirement including,EEG lead and physiological monitoring placement or adjustment, monitoring leg movement, apnea, and sleep behavior
- Design and implement workflow processes for ordering, scheduling and coordinating sleep studies for the Sleep Service
- Work with Sleep Service, nursing staff, protocol staff, NIH Clinical Center staff, andlaboratory staff to schedule sleep studies to ensure adequate staffing for sleep studypatients
- Provide recommendations on recruitment of technical staff
- Assist with quarterly Quality Assurance of Sleep technologist night staff
- Assist staff with writing policies and procedures specific for the Sleep Service
- Generate and maintain statistical reports to monitor department productivity and other key metrics
- Act as Point of Contact on the hospital ordering system; work in CRIS and Enterprise Scheduling
- Assist with preparation of supporting documentation for requisitions, sole-source justifications, and purchase descriptions routine Sleep Service and capital equipment purchases
- Troubleshoot all equipment; monitor the condition of diagnostic equipment and repair or request replacement
- Monitor and report on the level of resource spending for supply cost and productivity
- Keep sleep laboratory data aggregated and accessible
- Report any significant clinical andor operational issues to the Service Director
- Orient incoming staff to include Fellows Post-Bac IRTAs Sleep technologist on sleep device related issues
- Orient staff on the current AASM standards for data acquisition and Sleep Service Equipment
- Maintain adequate supplies needed for sleep laboratory
- Communicate with staff on any technical issues concerning sleep technicians and or acquisition systems
- Work in collaboration with protocol teams and clinical staff when coordinating sleep studies
- Maintain and revise workflow processes as needed to continue Sleep Service operations
- Maintain constant dialogue and working relationships with nursing teams on all units where sleep studies are performed
- In collaboration with the Sleep Service Team, expand the Sleep Service into all NIH Clinic Center areas as needs arise, ie, Pre-surgical OSA screening, mask-fittings, incorporation of 7SE-N beds, addition of testing resources
- Maintain Administrator rights to SNNS server share SVLAN connected testing equipment to advise IT and ISSO on scientific software network integration
- Update legacy equipment and software, upon approval, to ensure continuity of research data
- Maintain all research and clinical study data to include archiving, organizing, de-identifying, and sharing data

- Work products and documents related to monitoring population of patients for sleep testing.
- Ad-Hoc Work products and documents related to scoring sleep studies within AASM; preparing reports for review and interpretation; maintaining sleep diagnostic software, and all categories and brands of sleep diagnostic systems.
- Ad-Hoc Work products and documents related to monitoring, troubleshooting and arranging for repair of equipment; maintaining patient and staff safety.
- Ad-Hoc Work products and documents related to writing policies and procedures for Sleep Service; generating statistical reports to monitor productivity and operational issues; reviewing and updating Policy and Procedure manual.

- Bachelor's degree
- Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (REEGT)
