Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Social Studies Teacher and 9th Grade Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet AR licensure requirements
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Additional assignment as the 9th Grade Assistant Boys Basketball coach.
- Teaches courses in social studies, history, geography, American government, Tribal government, political science, or humanities to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
- Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.
- Evaluates each pupil’s growth in knowledge, skills, and scientific attitudes in course being taught.
- Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.
- Motivate each pupil to understand and exercise his/her rights, privileges, and responsibilities as a citizen, to develop understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors which influence the development of the world regions.
- Encourages pupils to develop sound opinions based on study of facts concerning operation of political and economic systems.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other duties as many, from time to time be assigned by the supervisor

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
