About the Position:
This position is located with the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) at Fort Drum, New York.
Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County.
As one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, the area offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, white water rafting, and winter sports of all types.

Guthrie Army Health Center is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown.

Responsibilities:
As a Social Worker (Family Advocacy) you will:
- Perform crisis intervention.
- Incumbent works independently as a licensed clinical social worker using advanced concepts, principles, procedures, practices, professional knowledge and sound judgment.
- Conducts comprehensive and complex risk assessments, clinical interviews, and psychosocial assessment of children and adults.
- Use specialized skills and training to interview victims, offenders, children and Family members regarding allegations of abuse or neglect.
- Assess individuals to explore the development of behavior patterns, mechanisms, and symptoms.
- Use a variety of professional instruments and techniques to assess the individual or Family and assess the level of risk and potential for lethality.
- Obtain relevant data from legal, investigatory, medical, command, social service agencies, schools, resource programs, etc. to compile information and present for a determination of abuse or neglect.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Family Advocacy):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes a family advocacy environment, assessing incidents of abuse, providing counseling to abusers or victims, conducting comprehensive and complex risk assessments, and developing treatment plans and/or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
License: This position has a licensure requirement. You must provide a copy of your current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.(Note: You must attach a copy of your license.)
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires 2 years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
