Position Summary
The BHS Licensed Social Worker is a professional position with the primary responsibility of providing direct patient care in the form of psychotherapeutic services, group psychotherapy, family meetings, and discharge planning.
Job Responsibilities
- Conducts diagnostic interviews with patients and families to determine and evaluate the patient’s support system in preparation for discharge from the inpatient psychiatric units, or to optimally live in the community as an outpatient.
- Obtains and records a complete psychosocial history (i.e. physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual components as well as the patient’s current needs) through clinical interviewing the patient and significant other(s).
- Conducts family meetings with the psychiatric inpatient and her/his significant others/family members as ordered by the Attending Psychiatrist.
- Maintains appropriate departmental records and statistics.
Education/Experience
- A Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) and Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is required. If not yet licensed, successful passing of the licensure examination within six months of hire is required.
- Appropriate clinical psychiatric experience as indicated in the intern’s clinical training program.
- Clinical knowledge of DSM-V diagnoses pertaining to a young adult through geriatric population.
- Analytical ability to participate in the development of effective treatment goals, plans, guidelines, policies, procedures, and outcome measures.
- Clinical ability to assess inpatient needs and potential for psychological improvement.
- Ability to interact with physicians, social service providers, clerical and other member of the BHS healthcare team in addition to various community agencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
- Work experience on an inpatient psychiatric unit and acquired experience in diagnostic interviewing, various recreational therapeutic modalities and discharge planning, familiarity with local agencies and facilities, and personal maturity to deliver quality clinical services according to the mission and directives of the Community Healthcare System.
- Ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual patient care environment.
