Amazon's Buying Experience organization is looking for an innovative and passionate Software Development Manager to build high-quality experiences for our customers on Amazon's shopping ecosystem.
We own the Product Detail Page that is at the core of global e-commerce. Millions of customers view billions of our product pages every year. Our vision is to understand the needs of each customer and provide a tailored buying experience. As an manager on the team, you will lead a team of engineer and guide them to build software platforms and features that impact how millions of customers shop online, on a variety of devices. You will delight customers with new shopping experiences, and you will empower hundreds of other internal Amazon teams who build on our platform to deliver the benefits of their unique programs to customers.
In this role you will be the leader of a team that is customer obsessed and deeply technical. You will gather requirements from a large number of customers and stakeholders, explore existing and emerging technologies inside and outside Amazon, map out opportunities and gaps between them and build a technical roadmap and deliver on it. You will own making technical decisions considering short and long-term impact of options. You will partner with and influence other senior leaders who own related technical deliverables to build a cohesive tools and services. You will hire, build and grow a team of technical leaders and engineers who deliver on these projects. You will own tracking project delivery, task management, setting and tracking success criteria and communication within the team and with senior leadership. You will guide your team to learn new skills, think big, invent and simplify - all with the goal of delivering long term maintainable services.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
