Their mission is to ensure developers are empowered to deliver code quickly, and minimize development pain. You will play a vital role in enhancing our development processes and improving Cohere’s developer velocity.Please Note: We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, New York, and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility. This team is concentrated in the EST timezone.As a Software Engineering Tech Lead on this team, you will:Improve the local development experience for our engineers, focusing on developer velocity and happinessDesign and implement changes to how our monorepo is structured to reduce time to mergeImplement strategies to help developers maintain and improve their tests, with the goal of high test coverageSpend 75% of your time actively contributing to code development and architecture, and 25% mentoring and managing a small teamMentor and grow your engineering colleagues of all levels through direct pairing sessions, architectural designs, documentation and talksYou may be a good fit if:You have been a tech lead, or a hands-on engineering managerYou have 3-5 years of experience writing clean backend code. We primarily use Go, Python, and TypeScript, with infrastructure running in multiple cloud providersYou have experience with build systems (such as Bazel), local Kubernetes development frameworks (such as Telepresence, k3d, Tilt), and CI/CD pipelines (such as GitHub Actions)You have excellent communication skills and believe that documentation is a great way to get feedback and discuss technical implementations and designsYou have an entrepreneurial spirit and motivation to help scale a companyIf some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
