About the Job
The Northern Utah Conservation District has an opening for the position of a Soil and Water Conservation Technician /Planner. This position will be based out of the Ephraim Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office.
Some travel and work may be required outside of county boundaries.
The successful applicant will provide technical assistance to the conservation district cooperators, on private and state lands in developing and writing plans for conservation projects and practices to reduce soil erosion, enhance irrigation efficiency, and improve water quality.
The new employee will also assist interested conservation districts in providing technical assistance to local cities and counties by using NRCS Soil Surveys, collecting important resource data and providing Geographical Information Systems (GIS), databases and maps for land use planning and evaluation of development proposals.
The position will require education or experience, which includes knowledge of natural resource management and some engineering principles, methods and techniques as applied to soil and water conservation.
A college degree is preferred, although not required if the applicant has had several years of appropriate experience. On the job training is provided. *It is necessary that the person hired for this position completes a course of study to be qualified as an NRCS certified planner during the first year of employment. *The applicants should have a good understanding and background in natural resource conservation and the ability to work with the agricultural community.
